Blue Bell, found in Eastern Pennsylvania, is a mainly wealthier suburban neighborhood but is surrounded by quaint historic sites and beautiful parks and countryside. Originally called Pigeontown, it was renamed after the historic Blue Bell Inn where several historical figures have stayed over the years; George Washington being one of them. It is now a newly renovated restaurant with an elegantly modern touch that is both relaxing and beautiful at the same time.

For history buffs, Blue Bell is central to many historical sites and museums, such as the site where the Battle of Gettysburg took place. Clifton House, Dewees Museum, and Germantown Historical Society Museum are just a few of the places in this area housing artifacts, documents, and more dating back to the 1700s.

One highly visited area is the Norristown Farm Park which includes 690 acres of farmland, hiking trails, open parks with picnic areas, fishing lakes, cycling paths, and more. It also has 15 historical buildings on it that date back to 1764. You will also find the Highlands Historical Society nearby which contains 44 acres offering formal gardens, an 18th century Georgian-style mansion, and several historical outbuildings.

Other places worth mentioning or visiting might be the Woodmere Art Museum, which features local artists and exhibitions from other countries. The Jenkins Arboretum and Gardens are free gardens open to the public with 46 acres featuring indigenous plants, flowers, and trees. If you are interested in wine, you might enjoy the Boyd’s Cardinal Hollow Winery with over 30 different types of wines ranging from Jalapeno to Gewurztraminer.

For the families, there are a variety of things to do from zoos to paintball. The above mentioned parks great places for a family picnic, but there is also the Childventure Museum with several hands-on activities, the Arnold’s Family Fun Center, the Elmwood Park Zoo, Happy Tymes Family Fun Center, and a few other recreational areas sure to entertain all ages.

For places to stay, the Normandy Farm Hotel and Golf Course is considered a good option. It is known locally as a good place to hold meetings and weddings. The rooms are simply decorated with a touch of country elegance and the Farmer’s Daughter is considered one of the better restaurants in the area. The Normandy Farm Hotel and Golf Course also has one of the more beautiful courses in the area. It is called the Blue Bell Country Club and has an 18-hole Arnold Palmer Signature golf course. The club house is often the center for wedding receptions.

As for restaurants, the above mentioned Blue Bell Inn and Farmer’s Daughter are two of the most popular. Other restaurants worth mentioning are From the Boot and Ristorante Castello at Blue Bell, which both offer an Italian-flavored menu. If you are seeking a more historical setting, the Broad Axe Tavern dates all the way back to 1681.

All in all, Blue Bell is an engaging place to visit, not only for historians, but for visitors from all walks of life.
